You know what it is like to be married to your husband, but have you ever considered what it’s like for your husband to be married to you?
I remember the first time I saw the book, What’s it Like Being Married to Me? And Other Dangerous Questions by Linda Dillow. I was intrigued but too scared to buy it. Do I really want to know what it’s like being married to me?
Taking an introspective look at your most important relationship is extremely valuable — but also terrifying. I finally got up the nerve to read it and I think my marriage is better for it.
In What’s it Like, Dillow shares insights from her survey of 500 Christian wives regarding the best and worst things they did in their marriages.
The candid survey responses provide a peek behind the curtain of decades-long marriages, which is incredibly insightful. It’s always better to learn from other people’s mistakes and this book is full of great lessons.
In one of my favorite sections of the book, Dillow asks her readers to flash forward and consider the following questions:
What would you like your husband to say about you after many years of marriage?
What character qualities would you like him to have seen in you?
What kind of love relationship would you want him to describe?
What kind of love would you have wanted him to have received from you during all those years?
I read this book alone, but I think it would be great to read with other wives. And it includes a 10-or 12-week Bible study.
