It’s back-to-school for the kiddos and back-to-Bible study for many Christian women. If you are looking for a women’s Bible study, I cannot more highly recommend The Five Aspects of Woman by theologian Barbara Mouser.
When a friend invited me to do the study with her and three other women, I had no idea the tremendous impact this study would have on my life, my marriage, my mothering, my ministry to other women, and even my outlook on who God created me to be.
The study does not focus on how to become a more Godly woman (although that may be a by-product of the study), rather, The Five Aspects of Woman looks at why God created woman in the first place. He first created a male, but why did He create a female? How and why are they different?
Those are huge questions and Mouser provides in-depth, Biblical answers. This is a study of Biblical femininity – femininity as God intended. Radical feminism has infiltrated every part of our society – even the church – and this study covers the depth and breadth of Biblical womanhood.
This is not a flimsy Bible study — it is on par with a seminary class. That said, the reading and workbook material did not feel overwhelming.
The Five Aspects of Woman is empowering, freeing and encouraging as it cuts the noise from our culture and even long-misused scripture. It has given me a deeper appreciation of being a woman and I plan to take each of our daughters through The Five Aspects of Woman before they enter high school.
